ANT PRESS CONFERENCE ON PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION

 The Alliance for National Transformation Presidential hopeful Maj. Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu Gregg is set to be nominated on Monday 2nd November 2020 at exactly 3:00PM from Kyambogo University playground, the party’s Coordinator for Electoral Affairs Mr. Dan Mugarura Bakaki has revealed in a press conference held this morning at the party’s head office. Mr. Mugarura told journalists that the Presidential candidate successfully got two thirds of the signatures and the party has already paid the twenty million Uganda shillings as required by the National Independent Electoral Commission. 

 

The Party’s Chief of electoral affairs hinted on the just concluded nominations at both parliamentary and local government where he revealed that the party successfully nominated 126 parliamentary candidates and 25 chairperson LCV candidates. The list for candidates on City Mayoral Seats, Municipal Mayors, LCV Councilors, Chairperson LCIIIs and Councilors LCIII is still being compiled and will be released sooner than later.   

 

On the other hand, the Party Spokesman Mr. Wilberforce Seryazi thanked the citizens who willingly appended their signatures in support of Gen. Muntu’s candidature. Through the party coordinators in various districts and cities, the party was able to raise more than two thirds of the signatures for the presidential candidate. 

 

On the question of the ruling party deciding to print the ballots from the country, Mr. Seryazi revealed that it wouldn’t be a problem but ANT feels uncomfortable due to the level of dishonesty and less integrity from the printing firms in Uganda. They should therefore be printed outside Uganda for purposes of fairness.

 

Regarding the day of nomination day and the procession, the chief of electoral affairs reported that the party officials were heading for a meeting with the National Independent Electoral Commission after the presser. It is from this meeting that the officials were going to get clarification about the guidelines in conjunction with the Ministry of Health’s Standard Operating Procedures on COVID-19 control and prevention.

 

On the point of the manifesto, the spokesperson revealed that it will be unveiled by the campaign team on Monday after the nomination session.
