Former Minister for Internal Affairs and Rakai District Woman MP in the NRM government Hon Sarah Kiyingi has today 15th July 2020 officially joined the Alliance for National Transformation. Sarah Kiyingi who was in Parliament until 2006 retired from elective politics after disagreeing with NRM over Presidential term limits. She has since then been into civil society where she has been engaged in empowering women.
Hon Sarah said that she was concerned by the fact that many good people have shunned politics claiming that it’s a dirty game and then challenged Ugandans that if they don’t join politics no one will clean it up.
She said that she was privileged to join a new political party that looks at values and principles and promised to participate in the building of that process.
On the other hand, the deputy speaker Makindye who declared that she will be contesting in ANT primaries to represent Kampala District as a woman MP, thanked ANT for standing for the good values and promised to keep in the Alliance for the rest of her life if God wills. She said she was joining the Alliance because of the good values that the Party stands for.
ANT RELEASES ITS ROADMAP.
On the press conference held on 15th July 2020, the ANT released its roadmap in which they reiterated their intention to participate in the 2021 general elections. The road map includes selecting and identifying candidates who will run for the different elective positions. The acting interim National Coordinator Hon. Alice Alaso said that the party will prefer having consensus whenever more than one candidate expresses interest in the same seat however, she said that primaries would be organized in situations where consensus fails.
The road map is inline with the current Electoral Commission roadmap and said that it will be subject to changes whenever need arises.
