The former Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Parliament, and Kasese woman MP, Hon Winnie Kizza, has today joined the Alliance for National Transformation. Winnie Kiiza who recently announced that she would not seek re-election after a 15 year- tenure in Parliament, joined the party at a press conference held on 12th August 2020.
Winnie Kizza, the first woman to become the Leader of Opposition in Uganda, has been praised for leading the opposition well in parliament especially during the controversial Age Limit debate where she rallied all MPs from the Opposition and some from NRM to oppose the law.
Winnie Kizza has also been praised for stepping aside when everybody wanted her to remain in Parliament, leading by example.
Winnie was accompanied by her husband, Yokasi Bihande, also a former Legislator for Bukonjo East and former L.C. V Chairperson for Kasese District and Hon Paul Mwiru,
the Jinja Municipality legislator.
Winnie said she was happy to join a party that is championing values, saying that is what this country needs.
The ANT Presidential Candidate Gen. Mugisha Muntu praised Winnie for being honest and principled. He said that when Winnie took a decision to step aside, even when it was known by a few close people, she didn’t change her own words. He said that this country needs leaders who have values and who practice what they say.
Winnie joins three other MPs; Hon Kassiano Wadri for Arua Municipality, Hon Paul Mwiru for Jinja Municipality and Hon Gerard Karuhanga for Ntungamo Municipality who had joined the party a while ago.
