Friday 06 November 2020-Kampala-, the Alliance for National Transformation unveiled the campaign Task Force that is led by Hon. Winnie Kiiza. The Task Force, which includes a national coordination committee, district and sub-county coordinators, has been mandated to coordinate the Presidential campaign of Mugisha Muntu Gregg.
From 9th November 2020, the Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu Gregg and the Campaign TaskForce will officially commence the campaign tour of the entire country for 60 days. The team is committed to showing Ugandans through the party’s message of hope that ANT ideals for a change in the country’s leadership is what Ugandans can Trust.
Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu used this occasion to caution the Electoral Commission and the Uganda Police Force on the ongoing brutality of opposition leaders. Muntu urged these institutions to respect the rule of law and observe fairness in the forthcoming general elections.
Hon. Winnie Kiiza, the Chief of the Campaign Task Force expressed gratitude towards the Alliance for National Transformation for giving her an opportunity to serve her country through the new role. She stated that:
“….I look at it as an opportunity because…..as it always said in the Bible: ‘My people perish because of lack of knowledge.’ I know our people want change but nobody has reached out to talk to them about change and possibly make them understand that there can be a change we can trust in. The change that can leave us united…..”
Hon. Winnie re-echoed Mugisha Muntu's request to the Electoral Commission (EC). She affirmed called upon the EC to exercise impartiality and treat all the candidates equal. Once a candidate is nominated, he/she becomes a property of the EC and, thus, the institution has an obligation to protect him or her. Hon. Winnie reassured the general public that transformative change is upon the country. The change, represented through the Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu, will put an end to the militarization and commercialization of politics, the change that will bring harmony, and the change that will erase corruption.
A Teaser on the ANT Manifesto
Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu highlighted a few areas of focus for the party’s manifesto. He confirmed that the focus of the manifesto addresses the dire interventions in the country to be able to leverage on the fastest growing youth population, health and agriculture to create and develop Uganda as a marketplace. Mugisha Muntu confirmed that his government would establish an Agricultural Bank of Uganda and increase the agricultural sector's budget up to 10%, which is in tandem with the Maputo declaration. On Health, Mugisha Muntu affirmed the introduction of a Sustainable Health Insurance model that draws from the registered success of practices in Rwanda and Ghana.
The ANT 20201-2026 Manifesto highlights the following key areas:
GOVERNANCE
- Installation of the national language.
- Foster conflict resolution.
- Promote the diversity of people.
- Strengthen anti-corruption institutions.
- Establishing the age limit.
- Increase funding for local government.
ECONOMY
- Establish agriculture value chain management.
- Increase agricultural budget to 10%.
- Setting up the Agricultural Bank of Uganda.
- Develop transport infrastructure.
- Boosting tourism.
- Enhance electricity.
- Enhance oil drilling.
NATURAL RESOURCES
- Encourage conservation (planting of 40,000,000 trees).
- Build a refinery without procrastination.
SOCIAL SECTOR
- Ensure education for all.
- Equip and stock health facilities.
- Reduce brain drain of Doctors.
- Encourage music, sports, and creative arts.
- Provide uniform and other scholastic materials to learners.
- Care for the aged and the elderly population.
- Ensure health insurance for all Ugandans.
- Advancement of peace and security.
- Promote the professionalism of security forces.
- Military in the barracks not in politics.
Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu appealed to all Ugandans to put Trust in ANT as part of their commitment to bear witness to the real transformation in the country. He affirmed that;
"By God's grace, if you entrust us with power, you will realize that everything is possible. I know that there are so many things that you gave up on, and you have reached the level of thinking that it’s only the Whites that can manage them. I want to state it categorically that we will show this nation that they can be done here in Uganda.”
