Uganda is not short on Efficient Leadership - Mugisha Muntu

Tuesday 25th November 2020, Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu traversed areas of Kamwenge and Kitagwenda districts in the Tooro sub-region. Mugisha Muntu was in the company of Women’s League Leader Amb. Edith Grace Sempala, Youth League Leader, Counsel Abubakar Matanda, the ANT Area Coordinator Erias Mugisha, and other ANT leaders and flag bearers for different levels.

In Kamwenge, the Uganda Police blocked the ANT team from meeting with supporters in Biguri. The police commander ASP Asiimwe issued ridiculous orders including that the candidate had arrived late. On the contrary, there had been heavy downpour and the original meetings grounds were water-bogged, which led the team to consider an alternative venue. In the end, Mugisha Muntu and the ANT team had to cancel the rally since they could not access their alternative venue and did not want to put the lives of their supporters at risk.

"Our policy has always been to do all we can to be reasonable, even in the face of unreasonable action on the part of the state. We engaged the police leadership in a civilized, respectable manner well knowing that they intended to not only frustrate us, but also cause us to act in ways that would give them an excuse to cause chaos,” Mugisha Muntu said. The team has also been frustrated when they found out that the radio they had booked to appear on had been intimidated not to host the candidate and his party.

Known for his peaceful approach to contentious issues, Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu and the team decided to do everything in their power to avoid anything that might lead to unnecessary chaos and bloodshed of innocent citizens. "While we are confident that we are on the right side of both the law and reason, we have chosen not to endanger the lives of our supporters or the general public by escalating the situation. We will do everything humanly possible to avoid a single life being lost or blood being shed on account of our campaign," he said.

Despite the unwelcome events in the Kamwenge district, the team continued to Kitagwenda where they held a distinctively organized and successful meeting. Mugisha Muntu assured the people in Kitagwenda that change is inevitable and nothing will stop it from happening.

Speaking on the economy, the candidate also revealed that the next ANT government would ensure that local investors are empowered and that they are dominant in the economy. This would help to solve the problem of capital freight, which has long compromised the development of Uganda’s economy.

Presidential Candidate Mugisha Muntu also spoke about education, reassuring the people of Kitagwenda that the next ANT government would do everything humanly possible to bridge the education performance divide between private and public institutions of learning in Uganda. He noted that in pursuit of better education, parents have lost money and property paying exorbitant fees in private schools. Mugisha Muntu said that this has compromised people's standards of living at the family level.

Mugisha Muntu also touched on the issue of health saying that the ANT government will ensure health facilities have supplies, such as drugs and equipment. The ANT government will also build more health facilities to cater for the increased population. Most important, the ANT government will invest in training health workers at the junior level and lifelong learning for those already in service.

The Presidential Candidate asked the people of Kitagwenda to vote for ANT, which has a disciplined team that will ensure long-term and sustainable planning to end negligible issues that have quashed the possibility of efficient service delivery. He noted that the challenge of Uganda is rooted in poor governance by the seating government, and therefore, he urged the people to vote into government a new group of disciplined leaders that will ensure efficiency and effectiveness in national planning and governance.

“The country is at a crossroads as manifested by the heavy deployment of security personnel in almost every village of Uganda. Why would a mere election attract such deployment as if it a war?” Mugisha Muntu asked. The candidate asked the people to use this election to register the first-ever peaceful transfer of power from one president to another in this Uganda.
